Jos man sentenced to prison for stealing airtime, phones

An Area Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced Aliyu Sani to 30 months’ imprisonment for stealing phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and airtime worth N1,366,000.
The judge, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The judge gave the convict the option of a fine of N20,000 or six months’ imprisonment for conspiracy and another option of a fine of N20,000 or 24 months’ imprisonment for theft.
Police prosecutor Daniel Ijuptil told the court that the case was reported at the ‘C’ Division police station on August 21 by the complainant, Umar Abubakar.
He stated that the complainant informed the police that the now-convicted individual conspired with his gang, broke into his shop, and stole four Itel smartwatches, eight earpods, MTN and Airtel airtime, and four phones, all valued at N1,366,000.
The prosecutor also informed the court that during the police investigation, the accused person had confessed to having committed the offence.
He said that the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
