Jos security guard jailed three years for stealing

A magistrates’ court in Jos on Friday sentenced a 29-year-old guard, Mark Bako, to three years in prison for stealing from a plaza he was employed to guard.

A magistrates’ court in Jos on  Friday sentenced a 29-year-old guard, Mark Bako, to three years in prison for stealing from a plaza he was employed to guard.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of breach of trust and theft brought against him by the police.

The magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict to three years in prison with an option of N50,000 fine for theft or to spend two years and N30,000 fine or one year for breach of trust.

The magistrate, also ordered the convict to pay N467,000 as compensation to the complainant or to spend additional 6 months in default all sentences to run concurrently.

While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Daniel Damulak, told the court that the complainant, Benjamin Kilson, reported the case on April 16 at the Anglo-Jos Police Station.

Mr Damulak said the convict stole one laptop , phone, one sealing machine, set of microphones, power bank, perfumes, MP3 game and cash sum of N30,000. He said during police investigation, the sealing machine , and laptop were recovered from him, other items not recovered were valued at N467,000.
