The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Anambra council, has urged the federal, state and local governments to make adequate government-owned transport facilities with reduced fares available to cushion the increase in petrol pump prices.

“The public transportation facilities will convey workers, who bear the direct brunt of hike in fuel pump price, to and from work,” said Emeka Odogwu, chairman of the council, on Monday.

Mr Odogwu spoke while reacting to transport difficulties faced by Nigerians due to an increase in the fuel pump price.

According to him, journalists and other Nigerians find transporting themselves to their workplaces challenging.

He urged public officeholders to see journalists as partners in progress rather than rivals and recognise them as members of the fourth estate of the realm.

Mr Odogwu thanked security agents for their efforts in addressing insecurity and urged them to do more.

He urged commercial motorists and motorcyclists to shun reckless driving and appealed to traffic managers to intensify efforts toward educating road users on safety.

“The NUJ commends Governor Chukwuma Soludo for embarking on massive road construction and rehabilitation; the importance of a good road network cannot be overemphasised,” he added.
