Premier League table-topper Arsenal have reached the quarter-finals of the European Champions League.

The English side beat the Portuguese giants in a penalty shootout after playing 1-1 on aggregate.

Arsenal won the penalty shootout 4-2. David Raya saved two spot kicks to emerge as the shootout hero.

Gunners skipper Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Kai Harvetz, and Bukayo Saka all scored. Only Pepe and Marko Grujić scored their penalties for Porto.

It was a near-perfect execution of a game plan from Porto.

“The tactical awareness and discipline from the players, the manager set them up to frustrate Arsenal, knew how to defend them. They took it all the way to the wire and gave a great account of themselves.

“The belief and confidence of this Arsenal team just carried them through and will keep growing,” said Matthew Upson, a former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Porto had won the first of the contest in Portugal.

At the Emirates on Tuesday night, the Gunners struggled to exert their influence on the game with Porto appearing a well-drilled side until Leandro Trossard scored a 41st-minute goal, making the scoreline 1-1 on aggregate.

Extra time followed after full-time and then the decisive penalty shootout.
