Six children and 20 women were among the worshippers killed by gunmen at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owo in Ondo State, Peoples Gazette can report.

The figures were released on Friday at the funeral service for the deceased of the Owo massacre.

The event, which is being attended by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and members of the State Executive Council, is currently being held at the Midax hotel in Owo.

Pictures of the victims were printed on the pamphlet for the funeral mass, The Gazette learned.

The attackers, numbering about four, had on June 5, 2022, attacked worshippers of the Catholic church, at Owa-luwa in Owo.

The Catholic Diocese of Ondo had said the ‘mass burial’ for the victims of the deadly attack will be held immediately after the service.

One of the reverend fathers in the diocese had earlier told The Gazette, on Thursday, that a few families of the victims have asked for the corpse of their loved ones for a private burial.
