The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Kano chapter, has elected new executives to run its affairs for the next two years.

The election, held on Friday in Kano during its 2023 annual general meeting (AGM), saw the institute elect Aliyu Yusuf of the ministry of information as chairman, Samaila Maizare of Radio Kano as vice chairman, and Usman Gwadabe of Triumph Newspapers as secretary.

While inaugurating the executives, the president of NIPR, Ike Neliaku, commended the predecessors for providing a level playing field for the council to be vibrant.

Mr Yusuf, in his speech, commended the members of the council for their overwhelming support and pledged to consolidate the achievements of past leaders of the chapter and take the institute to a greater height.

Earlier, Gov. Abba Yusuf recognised the current government’s focus on rebuilding public trust through transparent and credible policies that could directly impact citizens’ lives.

Represented by the commissioner for information, Baba Dantiye, the governor emphasised the importance of innovative approaches in the field of public relations to achieve desired results.

He also restated the state government’s commitment to support the institute.

The governor called on the newly elected members to be dedicated and move the institute to greater heights.

Also, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, called on journalists to allocate a dedicated section within their media organisations to inform Nigerians about the efforts made by the nation’s founding fathers in shaping Nigeria’s current state.

The royal father also urged journalists to promote national unity and portray Nigeria in a positive light to protect its image.

Represented by Katukan Kano, Habibu Bello, the emir also urged NIPR to fight fake news and not promote unverified news.

He further urged the media to set aside pages weekly or monthly to promote peaceful coexistence in the country.
