The police, on Monday, arraigned a 45-year-old trader, Ahmed Muhammed, at a Kano Sharia Court over an alleged breach of trust and cheating.

Mr Muhammed, who lives in the Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Abdullahi Wada told the court that the complainant, Isma’ila Kabir of Zoo road, reported the matter at the Fagge Police Station, Kano, on December 16.

Mr Wada said the complainant alleged that he gave Mr Muhammed (the defendant) N3.8 million to buy paddy rice, but he purchased paddy rice of N3.1 million and converted the remaining money for his personal use.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges.

The judge, Ismail Muhammad-Ahmed, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre until January 19, 2023, for a summary trial.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened sections 202 and 206 of the Kano State Shari’a Law.
