The State Security Service has refused visitations to the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, by his legal team.

In a statement on Friday, the leader of the legal team of the separatist leader, Aloy Ejimakor, said the act by the secret police violated the order of the Supreme Court which directed their unhindered access to him.

Mr Ejimakor wrote, “Today, in violation of subsisting court orders and the Constitution, the DSS blocked the legal team of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from meeting with him at the detention facility.”

Recall that Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Tuesday, recused herself from Kanu’s case, after he also accused the justice of disobeying a Supreme Court order, like the SSS.

He alleged that the SSS refused the legal team access to him because they wanted to get back at them for making Justice Nyako recuse herself from the case.

“It appears that the DSS has cancelled all future visitations to #MNK as retaliation against #MNK “for chasing away Justice Binta Nyako from the case and causing her embarrassment. What this means is that the DSS, acting on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, has unlawfully isolated #MNK from his lawyers, thus making his solitary confinement absolute. I don’t know when next, if ever, it may be possible to see #MNK again,” he stated.

An inquiry by Peoples Gazette to the SSS on Saturday was rebuffed as the agency’s spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, hung up the call as soon as Mr Kanu’s name was mentioned. He also didn’t respond to messages sent thereafter.
