The police in Katsina State, on Thursday, said it neutralised two bandits and recovered weapons during a shootout in Yasore, Batsari Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesman Gambo Isah disclosed this to reporters in Katsina, indicating that the terrorists in their numbers, shot sporadically with AK-47 rifles, attacked Yasore village at about 07:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Mr Isah said the DPO Batsari led a combined team of police and vigilante groups to the area and engaged them in a fierce gun duel, and successfully repelled them.

While scanning the scene after the encounter, the spokesman said the team recovered two corpses of neutralised terrorists, two AK 47 rifles and five magazines, 97 pieces of 7.62mm ammunition of AK 47 rifles.

He said other items recovered were two Itel mobile phones, a bunch of charms, a black bag containing N2,580, a lighter, a pen and a blue veil.

“Many of the terrorists were believed to have been neutralised and/or escaped the scene with gunshot wounds.

“Search parties are still combing the nearest bushes with a view to arresting them and/or recovering their dead bodies,” he said.

Mr Gambo further said the command has appealed to communities around the area to report to the nearest police station any person found or seen with a suspected gunshot injury.
