Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has assured the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps of continuous support to effectively carry out its constitutional responsibilities of minimising crimes across the state.

Mr Idris gave the assurance at the International Civil Defence Day and Passing Out Parade of the 2023 recruits in Birnin Kebbi on Friday. Seventy-one recruits were posted to Kebbi to undergo a six months training.

Mr Idris, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala-Tafida, said: “I assure you of sustained support and partnership with NSCDC for effective performance of its operations as well as other security agencies.”

The governor commended the corps for its contribution to securing lives and property of people in the state.

“I am impressed by the professional handling of firearms by personnel of the corps, especially the mantling and dismantling of the arms in a few seconds’ exercise,” he said.

The governor congratulated the corps on international civil defence day and passing out parade of the recruits, assuring that the government had placed premium on security matters in the state.

Earlier, the Commandant, NSCDC in the state, Kabir Abubakar-Alkamawa, lauded the Federal Government for successfully recruiting over 6,500 able Nigerian youths across the country.

According to him, 71 out of the recruited personnel have been allotted to the state who successfully received training and passed out on the occasion.

He said, “The recruits have undergone six months rigorous training which included physical and theoretical lectures of basic arms training prerequisite to their legitimate duties. During this period, I am pleased to inform you that we did not record any causality.”

The commandant noted with satisfaction that the recruits had endured the rigours of the training with a sense of commitment, dedication and readiness to serve their state and father land.

He noted, “Today as we look forward to integrating them into the system as they have been scheduled to also undergo more training in our various training schools across the country in tandem with modern techniques and realities.’’

Mr Abubakar-Alkamawa thanked Mr Idris for the support and generosity the state government had been rendering to the command.

The commandant also seized the opportunity to state that manpower was still inadequate, while appealing for more efforts to increase the number in subsequent recruitment.
