The Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday sentenced a labourer, Ridwan Adebayo, 22, to six months’ imprisonment for stealing a box of rubber sandals worth N96,000.

Magistrate T.B. Oyekanmi gave Adebayo an option to serve two weeks of community service.

Ms Oyekanmi ruled that Mr Adebayo was found guilty as charged on the theft count.

The police had charged the accused with conspiracy and theft.

Prosecution counsel Sikiru Ibrahim told the court that the convict committed the crime on August 23, at about 10:00 a.m., at Ogunpa market, Ibadan.

Mr Ibrahim said the box containing the sandals belonged to the convict’s victim, Foluso Adeyemi.
