Lamidi Apapa, a factional chairman of the Labour Party, has directed all the party’s lawyers handling its election petition before the presidential election petition court, to within 48 hours come and brief him on the processes so far.

Mr Apapa’s summon comes after Justice Hamza Muazu of an Abuja High Court, on Friday, held that the court has jurisdiction to hear a suit seeking the removal of the party’s chairman, Julius Abure and four other national officers.

Reacting to the court’s ruling in an interview with journalists, Mr Apapa said that justice had taken its natural course, saying that the judge acted in line with true justice.

“With this ruling, there is no doubt that I am in charge. As of today, I am the acting National Chairman of the Labour Party,” Mr Apapa asserted.

Following the outcome of the February 25 presidential election, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi had approached the tribunal to fault the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Mr Tinubu president-elect, saying he scored 8.79 million votes ahead of Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party who polled 6.98 million votes. Mr Obi came third with 6.10 million votes.
