The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday inaugurated its Service Delivery Charter aimed at improving institutional transparency, responsiveness, and public engagement.

The House clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, made this known in his welcome address at the inauguration of the initiative at the assembly complex in Lagos. The event was organised by the assembly’s service delivery unit.

‎Mr Onafeko, also the charter initiative’s pioneer officer, explained that the launch of the document marked a new era of transparency, efficiency, and citizen-focused governance in the state.

‎The clerk said, “Our unwavering commitment remains delivering qualitative and efficient service to the good people of Lagos State through our legislative responsibilities, as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He described the document as a contract between staff and service users that guides them on when and what quality of service to provide to guests.

The clerk urged members of staff not to underestimate their roles, regardless of job descriptions.

In her remark, the head of the service delivery unit, Uzezi Saka-Shenayon, described the charter as a comprehensive document.

Ms Saka-Shenayon said it outlined the assembly’s services, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, communication channels, and the roles of various departments and units within the assembly.

‎She emphasised that the document empowers the public to monitor and evaluate service standards, thereby creating a social contract between the people and their elected representatives.
