Lagos couple, others in court for engaging in public brawl

A police prosecutor alleged that the defendants caused nuisance by engaging themselves in public fighting.

The police on Friday arraigned a 52-year-old man, his wife and two others before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court for allegedly engaging in public fighting and malicious damage.

The defendants — Ilesanmi Ayebo, 52; Comfort Ayebo, 47; Azeez Ogunyemi, 38; and Temitope Alufa, 22; whose addresses are unknown, are standing trial on a two-count charge of public fighting and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 27, at about 10:00 a.m, at Ayebo Compound, Ayebo Street, Torikoh, Badagry area of Lagos State.

Mr Okuoimose alleged that the defendants caused nuisance by engaging themselves in public fighting.

The prosecutor said that Mr Ogunyemi and Mr Alufa damaged one android Techno Spark 7 phone valued at N120,000 belonging to the first defendant.

“The people in the area invited the Police to come and arrest them when they could not settle their quarrel peacefully,” the prosecutor said.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 54 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Adefioye adjourned the case until May 26, for mention.
