The Lagos State government has asked truck and commercial bus drivers to vacate all bridges in the state within seven days or risk prosecution.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, issued the vacation order on Monday.

Mr Giwa, who lamented traffic obstruction on bridges across the state, alleged that commercial bus drivers have continued to ignore the government’s several warnings.

He explained that the illegal activity contravenes the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 as amended. He warned that such vehicles would be charged to the state’s mobile court for prosecution.

“Every motorist/commercial bus driver operating along ‘Apongbon’ and ‘Idumota’ (Cater) Bridges, ‘Elegbata:, ‘Ebute-Ero’ and ‘Ejalonibu’ must as a matter of urgency vacate these areas as LASTMA would commence strict enforcement operation immediately after the expiration of this ultimatum until zero tolerance is achieved across the state” he stated.

He stated that the government was expending huge resources to provide standard bus terminals or garages for commercial activities.
