The chairman of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Opeyemi Akindele, has announced plans to revamp and upgrade primary schools in the community to modern standards ahead of resumption.

Ms Akindele disclosed in a statement on Friday that efforts were ongoing to improve public primary schools in the council area before the September 15 resumption date.

“Our focus now is on how the administration will tackle the dilapidated state of schools by renovating facilities and providing essential amenities for pupils and teachers.

“During our recent assessment tour of primary schools across the LCDA, we expressed dissatisfaction with the poor state of infrastructure. The schools visited include African Church Nursery and Primary School, Akinogun; Housing Estate Primary School; Abesan Primary School; and Estate Primary School.

“That is why we are taking proactive steps such as rehabilitating vandalised classrooms, constructing additional classrooms and providing immediate supplies of chairs, tables, desks and benches for both teachers and pupils,” she said.

According to her, ceiling fans will be installed, vandalised electrical fittings replaced and potable water systems provided for pupils and staff.

The chairman added that her administration would also rehabilitate school toilets and reconstruct collapsed fences and gates.

She said the development would also include the evacuation of illegal structures and vendors around school premises to ensure a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.

“We are going to deploy additional armed security operatives to strengthen safety, as we are committed to providing a safe, conducive and well-equipped learning environment for children in Mosan-Okunola LCDA,” she added.
