Chairman, Ibeju-lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Sesan Olowa, has said the council embarked on the establishment of cassava plantation hubs in the council area to boost revenue earnings.

Mr Olowa disclosed this during an interview in Ibeju-lekki on Thursday.

He said that the transformative initiative was to boost agricultural produce within the council area and to also raise more revenue generation.

He said, “The establishment of cassava plantation will boost the council revenue, agricultural sector and also create employment opportunity.’’

Mr Olowa said that the initiative was in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and the Ibeju Lekki Local Government.

He stated, “The alliance is to establish massive cassava plantation hubs in Ibeju Lekki through a new out-grower scheme, which is set to revolutionise agricultural practices and boost economic opportunities for farmers in the region. The out-grower scheme is designed to organise artisanal farmers into clusters for cassava cultivation.”

The scheme promises a range of support measures, including land clearing, provision of seedlings, access to credit finance, and marketing assistance.

He said, “This collaboration signifies a significant step towards increased agricultural productivity and prosperity for the local community.’’

The chairman said that the establishment of plantation hubs through the scheme signified a significant leap towards agricultural modernisation and economic empowerment for farmers in the area.

He noted that 600 farmers would be engaged in the exercise.

He said that the plantation would be established on more than three acres of land with several infrastructure therein, to accommodate the farmers and modern equipment would be provided for the farmers to operate smoothly and effectively.

Mr Olowa pledged to attract more dividends of democracy and good governance to the people of Ibeju-lekki LGA.
