Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat says Nigerian youths “waste” their time on “frivolities.” He then urged them to focus on informative articles and educational videos that offer tangible solutions to real-world problems.

Mr Hamzat gave the advice at a youth seminar organised by the Ministry of Youth And Social Development in commemoration of the International Youth Day Celebration on Thursday at Alausa, Ikeja.

The Lagos deputy governor emphasised the importance of reading and learning from books and embracing digital technology to drive personal growth, state development, and national progress.

“Stop wasting your time on frivolities. Rather, focus on practical things. Always read well-equipped books that can be useful to you and will change your lives for the better, as reading books will keep you informed and more educated,” Mr Hamzat said.

He encouraged the youth to harness the power of digitalisation to create positive change and tackle complex problems.

Mr Hamzat also noted that technology was becoming a global village that gave people the opportunity to drive change and development.

According to him, the conventional education system, limited to classroom learning, no longer provides the comprehensive preparation required for individuals to thrive and make a positive difference in a world increasingly shaped by technological advancements.

He added that they should not just be on the internet for TikTok videos and Instagram reels, among others, but should study the right things that would be beneficial to them.
