The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered from them a pistol and three rounds of 7.65mm live ammunition.

The Command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement in Lagos on Monday.

He said that the suspects, who were unlawfully in possession of firearms, were arrested by officers of the Aswani Division of the Command in the early hours of May 22 on the Oshodi/Apapa Expressway.

“The suspects were arrested at about 4:40 a.m., at Five-Star bus stop on the Oshodi/Apapa Expressway.

“The officers flagged down an unregistered mini bus popularly known as Korope on reasonable suspicion that the occupants were up to mischief.

“After a thorough search, a browning pistol and three rounds of 7.65mm live ammunition were discovered in the vehicle.

“Also found with them were one Fidelity Bank ATM card and one itel mobile phone. While two of the three occupants were arrested, the third escaped,” Mr Hundeyin said.

The police spokesperson said that investigation has been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect and arraign them in court.

He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has commended officers and men of the Command for their doggedness in the fight against crime.

“Alabi commended the officers and charged them to redouble efforts towards annihilating crime within the state,” Mr Hundeyin said.
