The Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives have arrested 40 alleged criminals in different black spots within Yaba.

The state police command disclosed this in a statement on Friday on X.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested at about 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday in a joint operation in the area by the RRS operatives and members of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency.

“The raid is sequel to complaints from members of the public about the activities of criminals who waylay passersby and rob them of their belongings,” the RRS said.

The RRS commander, Olayinka Egbeyemi, following the complaints and the approval of the police commissioner, Adegoke Fayoade, directed the operatives to commence “discreet surveillance of the area before the arrest.”

The RRS added that 40 suspects were arrested during the operation.

Nine suspects were later released at RRS Headquarters, Alausa.

The remaining 31 suspects would be prosecuted, said the statement.
