The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Friday in Ikeja felicitated with Christian faithful at the celebration of the Easter season.

He urged the faithful to pray for Nigeria and for the successful tenure of incoming administrations at the national and state levels.

His media aide, Mr Eromosele Ebhomele, quoted Mr Obasa in a statement as urging Nigerians to spend the season in individual introspection and understanding that the country needs its citizens to prosper.

“No country grows or prospers without its citizens. This is to say that the roles of the citizens in the development of a country cannot be overemphasised.

“At this stage, we must regard Nigeria as our country and resolve to unite to make it a better place for all.

“This means that as we pray, let’s also be mindful that we must all be willing to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of our dear country, no matter which part we come from,’’ Obasa said in the statement.

Mr Obasa also tasked Christians on religious tolerance, saying that was one way citizens could live in peace, harmony and in love as taught by Jesus Christ, the reason for the season.

He noted that Jesus Christ taught the virtues of humility, kindness, compassion and fear of God.

According to him, Jesus Christ remains a study in perseverance and forgiveness.

“This was why He reminded us that love for one another is one of the greatest commandments of God,’’ Obasa also noted.

He congratulated Nigerians on behalf of his colleagues and staff at the Lagos State House of Assembly, appealing that they should imbibe the virtues of Christ and be in love with one another.

He charged Nigerians to also use this period to touch lives and remember those in need, saying that they should show compassion to neighbours, friends and to other citizens.

Mr Obasa noted that Lagos State enjoyed peace and security because the House of Assembly had constantly passed bills, motions and resolutions with residents at the centre of consideration.

The Federal Government declared Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10, as work-free days to celebrate the 2023 Easter in remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
