The Lagos State government says car-spotting activities that block roads and constitute a nuisance will no longer be tolerated.

The Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said in a statement on X on Tuesday that car-spotting breaches motorists’ privacy and urged them to carry out their activity in car lots.

Mr Wahab said, “You can do your car spotting without constituting a nuisance or obstructing the road in any way. You are welcome to visit car lots and engage in your car-spotting activities there. However, staying on the road for this purpose will not be allowed in any way.

“Aside from being a nuisance, it is also a breach of privacy and will not be tolerated by the state government. Thank you for your understanding!”

Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat last week described the activity as criminal, saying some car-spotters have already been arrested and charged in court.

Mr Hamzat also vowed that the state government will intensify efforts against car-spotters using the activity to harass motorists and stop luxurious vehicles along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, to improve public safety.

“That is criminal, and therefore, we will not allow it. So, we will take a lot of them off the street. A lot of people have been arrested, really. A lot of cameras are also on that road and people have been seen… some people are in the Magistrate Court today,” Mr Hamzat stated.
