Adamson Adeboro, an Abuja based lawyer, in an interview on Saturday in Abuja, decried unprofessional practices in the profession.

He said that the ethics of the profession was gradually eroding.

“When we were trained, we were trained to respect the elders at the bar. For instance when you go to any gathering as a young lawyer, we were taught to stand up for older ones to sit.

“There is tremendous respect in the legal profession but today the reverse is the case. In other words, it means the education given to lawyers at the moment are defective,” he said.

Mr Adeboro said it appeared that there was a shift in the teaching of the profession, blaming the disparity “on the teachers at the university down to the law school.”

He condemned behaviour of some lawyers at the just concluded bar conference and urged the necessary authorities to forestall future occurrences.

“There are two trainings in law, your home training and your professional training. Obviously they need to strike a balance between both to make a good lawyer,” Mr Adeboro said.
