The chairman of the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, Wasiu Adesina, has directed the registration of all markets operating within the council area.

Mr Adesina gave the directive at the Lagos State Tree Planting Day celebration at the Jamatul Islamiyat Primary School, Ikorodu, on Sunday.

The event had the theme “Nurture Our Future.”

The chairman directed market leaders to register the markets with the council secretariat.

He said the registration had become necessary for an in-depth knowledge of the council’s infrastructure challenges to facilitate planning, construction and expansion.

“The registration is important for necessary planning and improvement,” he said.

Mr Adesina said trees provided humans with oxygen and offered shade, shelter and sustenance to countless species.

He added that it aided resilience against climate change.

“It is our collective responsibility to continually plant trees and work towards a sustainable future.

“Each tree is a symbol of hope, a promise of greener and healthier tomorrow,” he said.

The chairman urged the residents of the council area to plant and nurture more trees.
