LG Polls: APC hails Rivers residents’ support

The All Progressives Congress on Monday in Abuja expressed appreciation to Rivers residents for their overwhelming support in Saturday’s local government elections.
Felix Morka, the party’s spokesman, said in a statement that the APC’s victory reflected the confidence the people of Rivers had in the party.
The APC secured 20 out of the 23 contested chairmanship seats across the state.
“This victory is yet another unmistakable indication of strong confidence in the APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu,” Mr Morka said.
He added that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda continued to deliver transformative and people-oriented governance at all levels in the country.
“We commend our party’s leaders, members, and supporters for working tirelessly to achieve this important victory,” Mr Morka said.
He praised the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and hitch-free poll.
Mr Morka urged the newly elected local government officials to work harder to deliver meaningful governance outcomes for the common good of all.
He rejected allegations of foul play by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar regarding the elections.
Mr Morka described Atiku’s claim as a smokescreen to cover what he called the poor showing of his African Democratic Congress.
He said the allegations were also an attempt to incite tension and strife over the Rivers local government election, which should be firmly rejected.
“Again, our profound gratitude remains with the Rivers electorate for their highly valued support. Together, we will build a stronger and more united Rivers,” Mr Morka added.
