Man, 20, arraigned over alleged shopbreaking, stealing

A 20-year-old man, Segun Ajie, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, over alleged shopbreaking and stealing.

Ajie is standing trial on a six-count charge bordering on unlawful entry and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 20, 2025, at different locations within Dalemo, Alakuko, under the Ikeja Magisterial District.

He alleged that the defendant broke into a shop belonging to one Mariam Adeyemi, at about 1. 30 p.m. at Ayinla Adejobi Street, with intent to steal.

According to him, the defendant allegedly stole an Infinix Smart 5 phone valued at N150,000.

The prosecutor also told the court that on the same day, the defendant unlawfully entered into another shop located at Olanukan Street, belonging to one Amosun Paulina.

He alleged that the defendant stole an Itel Android phone valued at N60,000.

In another count, the prosecutor alleged that the defendant again, broke into a shop belonging to one Omowunmi Wasiu at No. 1, Alaba Taiwo Street, off Yusuf Road, Kola, Alagbado.

He was alleged to have stolen an Apple iPhone 6 valued at N60,000, an Apple wristwatch valued at N110,000, and a cash sum of N25,000.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 280, 287 and 308 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Omolara Kushanu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She, consequently, adjourned  the case until April 4,  for hearing.

The offences of stealing attracts a penalty of three years imprisonment.
