A 45-year-old man, Saidu Iliyasu, on Wednesday, was brought before a Kano Sharia Court charged with duping one Bala Munzali of N130,000.

Mr Iliyasu, who lives at Rijiyar Lemo Kano, pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating and mischief preferred against him.

Subsequently, the Judge, Umar Lawal-Abubakar, admitted him to bail in the sum of N60,000 with one reliable surety, who must be a blood relation.

He adjourned the case until May 28 for summary trial.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Abdullahi Wada, told the court that the complainant, Munzali, a resident of Fagge Quarters, reported the matter at Fagge Police Station, Kano, on May 6.

Mr Wada said that the complainant informed the police that he entrusted N130,000 to the defendant to buy goods for him to boost his business.

“He alleged that the defendant failed to buy the goods as agreed and when the complainant asked for the refund, it was discovered that the latter had converted the money to his personal use. All efforts to get the money back have proved abortive,” Mr Wada said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 202 and 206 of the penal code.
