The police on Wednesday arraigned a company worker, Innocent Chidiebere, in a Grade 1 Area Court, Mpape, Abuja, for allegedly destroying an ugwu vegetable farm valued at N100,000.

The police charged Mr. Chidiebere, 38, of Shishipe road, Mpape, with a one count charge of mischief.

The judge, Salihu Ibrahim, granted bail of N200,000 to the defendant, with one reliable surety in like sum.

Mr. Ibrahim adjourned the case until March 29 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that on February 3, the defendant destroyed the ugwu farm belonging to the complainant’s mother.

Mr. Nwaforaku said during police investigation, Mr. Chidiebere had admitted to committing the offence.

The matter, the prosecutor said, was reported at Mpape Police Station by the complainant, Ebong Opule, of No. 5, Ayuba Birma Avenue, Arab Road, Kubwa, Abuja.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 327 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
