A 38-year-old man, Timothy Faleye, on Monday appeared before the Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun, over death threats, encroaching into community farmland and destroying crops worth N1.8 million.

The police charged Mr Faleye with forceful entry, malicious damages, a threat to life and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant, and others still at large, committed the offences on October 26, at about 4:30 p.m., at Ijako, via Ajibode, Ado-Odo-Ota area of Ogun.

Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplices conspired to forcibly enter the farmland and damaged crops worth N1.8 million belonging to the Ojusango community.

He added that they also threatened the lives of some residents, Muisideen Ogunremi, Akeem Abati and Toyin Sonde.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 86, 133, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

Mr Faleye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, A.O. Adeyemi, admitted the defendant to N200,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

Ms Adeyemi ordered that the surety reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.

She then adjourned the case until December 14 for further hearing.
