A man, Sunday Ayosugh, has asked Makurdi Upper Area Court in Benue to dissolve his 17-year-old marriage to Linda Ayosugh for continuously closing late from work.

Mr Ayosugh also told the court that “their marriage had broken down irretrievably, and he could no longer tolerate the marriage”.

“The respondent who is a civil servant with the Benue State with an official closing hour of 4:00 p.m. has since become intolerable to live with.

“She has the habit of abandoning her matrimonial home, always returning home very late in the night and has refused to heed to the countless counsel from the petitioner,” he said.

He said they got married in 2005 under the Tiv Native Law and Custom and later wedded in 2015 and have two boys and a girl.

Mr Ayosugh said his wife had refused to fulfil her marital duties such as taking care of the kids and conjugal responsibilities to him.

He accused her of denying him sex between 2019 and 2021 when they ceased to cohabit.

Mr Ayosugh said they had several issues between 2005 and 2015, adding that she ran to her father’s house on three occasions and stayed for a long time.

However, when the case came up, Ms Linda said she was not liable for the allegations.

The magistrate, Dooshima Ikpambese, urged the parties to try and settle out of court and adjourned the case until September 28 for a hearing.
