A 23-year-old man, Kluivert Maduebuka, who allegedly swindled a Bet Naija attendant of N25,000, was on Tuesday docked in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendant is charged with breach of peace and cheating. He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecution Counsel, Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 21 at a Bet Naija store located at Peace Estate, Iba, Ojo, Lagos.

He said that the defendant played a game of chance by betting to the tune of N25,000 when he knew he had no money to pay the bet attendant, Suzzy Andrew.

He said the defendant allegedly never paid for the bet, and was also alleged to have conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace in the process.

The prosecution told the court that the bet sum was consequently deducted from the pay of the attendant by her principal, adding that the offence contravenes section 168 and 323 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Magistrate D.S. Odukoya admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until August 29 for mention.
