A 34-year-old man, Matthew Edward, was on Thursday arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly buying a stolen iPhone 12 Pro Max valued at N510,000

Mr Edward, who resides in Malali area of Kaduna, was charged on two-counts of conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

The Prosecution, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the offence was committed on January 12 at Ungwan Sarki area of Kaduna.

“Some group of boys robbed the complainant, David John, of his iPhone 12 Pro Max worth N510,000 at gunpoint,” he told the court.

He said the case was reported to the police and the stolen iPhone was tracked, leading to the arrest of the defendant.

The prosecutor added that during police investigation the defendant confessed to buying the phone at the sum of N150,000 from one Samson Victor, now at large.

The offence, Leo said, contravened the provisions of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Mr Emmanuel ordered that the surety must deposit a recent passport photograph with the court. He adjourned the case until February 12, for hearing.
