Man jailed for stealing five bags of rice

The convict was apprehended by the security guards while trying to escape in a tricycle.

A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Barau Aminu, to six months’ imprisonment for stealing five bags of rice and N200,000 cash.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Aminu, who resides in Kawo, Kaduna after he pleaded guilty to theft.

Mr Emmanuel, however, gave him an option of N20,000 fine.
Earlier, prosecution counsel Chidi Leo told the court that the defendant committed the offence in Kawo Market on April 12.

Mr Leo added that the convict stole five bags of rice worth N169,000 and N200,000 cash belonging to Shuaibu Mohammad.

He also mentioned that the convict was apprehended by the security guards while trying to escape in a tricycle.

The offence is punishable under Section 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
