Man remanded for stealing compressor, sentencing fixed for September 22

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of one Suleiman Mohammed after his conviction for the alleged theft of an air condition compressor.
The magistrate, Umar Dodo, ordered the remand of Mr Mohammed in the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre, Keffi, after he pleaded guilty.
The magistrate adjourned the case until September 22 for the sentencing of the convict.
Mr Dodo also directed the complainant, Mujaheed Babaji, to produce the receipt of the stolen compressor on the next adjourned date.
The police had arraigned Mr Mohammed on two counts of joint act and theft.
During the trial, the prosecuting counsel, Chinenye Okafor, told the court that the complainant reported the matter at the Central Police Station on September 1.
Mr Okafor said that Mr Mohammed and one Mr Umar at large allegedly stole one air conditioner compressor at the entrance of British High Commission valued at N130,000 on August 28.
The prosecution counsel said that Mr Mohammed sold it to one Mr Gambo at large for N50,000.
According to Mr Okafor, the offences contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 79 of the Penal code.
Mr Mohammed pleaded guilty to the two counts and begged the court for leniency.
