The Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has ordered that 33-year-old Ibraheem Abubakar be remanded in the Kirikiri correctional centre for attempting to steal drugs from a hospital store.

Mr Abubakar, an unemployed man, who resides at 4, Ogunmokun Street, Mushin, Lagos, is charged with attempted theft. He pleaded guilty.

Magistrate A. J Odueke adjourned the matter until October 6 for sentencing.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Racheal Williams, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on August 16 in Ikeja.

Ms Williams said the defendant posed as a hospital staff member, gained access to its store and attempted to open it to steal drugs and other medical items.

She said the defendant was caught with the key with which he attempted to open the store lock.

The prosecutor also said that when questioned after being caught, the defendant could not give any satisfactory explanation as to why he wanted to force the door open.

She said the offence contravened section 406 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
