Manchester City have confirmed that they have an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland this summer, having paid $63 million (£51 million) to trigger his release clause.

The prolific Norwegian has been the subject of numerous transfer rumours since he burst onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg in the 2019/2020 season. He, however, chose to move to Borussia Dortmund that winter.

With 85 goals in the 88 games since then, he and Manchester City would hope that the striker continues to produce the quality and consistency he has shown in the last three seasons.

City announced the signing: “Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022.

“The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player,” reads the statement on the club’s official website.

Manchester City tried, unsuccessfully, to sign a striker in Harry Kane last season but has now bolstered their squad with a fine young player.

City are top of the English Premier League and on course to win a fourth title in five years.
