The Alumni Association of the National Institute has called for fair wages and improved welfare for Nigerian workers as the country marks International Workers’ Day.

In a statement on Friday, AANI president Emmanuel Okafor restated the need for government at all levels and private sector employers to prioritise policies that guarantee equitable remuneration and improved working conditions.

Mr Okafor noted that Nigerian workers remain the backbone of national development, stressing that their contributions across critical sectors of the economy deserve commensurate rewards.

He urged stakeholders to address growing concerns over the rising cost of living, which continues to erode workers’ purchasing power.

According to him, ensuring fair wages is not only a matter of social justice but also a strategic imperative for boosting productivity, economic growth, and national stability.

“A well-motivated workforce is essential for sustainable development. When workers are fairly compensated, their morale improves, productivity increases, and the overall economy benefits,” he said.

The AANI president further called for sustained dialogue between labour unions, government, and employers to foster mutual understanding and develop lasting solutions to labour-related challenges.

He also urged Nigerian workers to remain dedicated, resilient, and committed to national service, despite prevailing economic difficulties.

He reaffirmed AANI’s commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that promote good governance, economic inclusiveness, and the welfare of all Nigerians.
