Measles: Red Cross trains 314 supervisors, data officers in Kano

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has trained 314 supervisors and divisional data officers ahead of the ongoing measles-rubella vaccination campaign in Kano State.
The Kano branch executive secretary of the society, Musa Abdullahi, disclosed this at the one-day training of trainers (ToT) exercise in Kano on Sunday to equip participants with the skills to support the campaign.
Mr Abdullahi said the training was done in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
He said the safe and life-saving free vaccines are given to children from nine months to 14 years.
Mr Abdullahi said 3,036 volunteers would go from house to house to educate mothers on the importance of vaccines, while the 314 supervisors would supervise the volunteers across 20 Local Government Areas.
According to him, the campaign aims to promote healthy living and encourage households to embrace vaccination as a critical step in protecting children from preventable diseases.
The executive secretary said the volunteers would be deployed across communities to ensure wider coverage and support the government’s efforts to safeguard children’s health.
He reiterated the commitment of NRCS to protect children and communities through effective vaccination programmes.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran, represented by the director of medical services, Shehu Abdullahi, commended the society for its continuous support to the health sector.
He assured that the state government would sustain collaboration with NRCS to ensure the successful implementation of vaccination campaigns.
