On Thursday, a 34-year-old mechanic, Kanu Stephen, was arraigned before the Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, said that on December 28, 2023, Abdul Akpo of Anagada entrusted his vehicle to the defendant to repair its clutch plate.

He said the mechanic took the customer’s vehicle to an unknown destination for six days and switched off his phone.

He said the six days the defendant spent was valued at N300,000.

The offence, he said, contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The mechanic pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge, Saminu Suleiman, admitted the defendant to a bail of N300,000, with one surety in like sum.

Mr Suleiman said the surety must have a fixed address and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the matter until January 30 for a hearing.
