A 37-year-old mechanic, Ademiluyi Olaitan, on Thursday appeared before the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for defrauding a customer of N78,000.

The defendant was charged with stealing and fraud.

The prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 28 at No.1, Tiwadayo St., Senukoro, Ayetoro Itele, Ota.

Mr Adaraloye said the defendant converted the N50,000 he received to repair a Hyundai car, belonging to the complainant, Ilesanmi Ogundolere, to personal use.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also stole a battery valued at N28,000 from the complainant’s car.

He said the offences contravened sections 390(9) and 421 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi granted the defendant bail of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Ms Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.

She adjourned the case until May 19 for further hearing.
