Meta has confirmed that its social media apps, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads, will be blacked out globally on Tuesday.

Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, on his official X handle at 4:25 p.m. acknowledged the platforms’ blackout and assured that it was being worked on.

Mr Stone said, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”

Various users of the four platforms reported being abruptly logged out of their accounts and receiving a “session expired” or “password incorrect” notification.

The outage of Meta’s platforms appeared to have started around 4:00 p.m. Nigerian time, and the reason for the development or when it will be fixed was not stated.

The outage has prompted many users to switch to a rival platform, X.

In 2022, WhatsApp experienced a worldwide outage.
