Former U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence has doubled down in his campaign to win the Republican nomination, stating his bona fide that he could take up his former boss, ex-President Donald Trump as he condemns the latter’s role in the infamous invasion of the U.S. Capitol. Mr Pence said Mr Trump’s egging on the riotous horde.

Mr Pence stated that Mr Trump’s actions on January 6 should disqualify him from reelection.

“I believe that anyone who puts themselves over the constitution should never be president of the United States,” he said. “And anyone who asked someone else to put them over the constitution should never be president of the United States again.”

“But the American people deserve to know that on that day, President Trump also demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution,” the former vice-president explained. “Now, voters will be faced with the same choice: I chose the constitution, and I always will.”

On Wednesday, Mr Pence made the remarks while delivering a speech in Ankeny, Iowa.

Following Mr Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential election, hordes of his supporters invaded the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Five people were claimed to have died as a result of the invasion.

The attackers also threatened to hang Mr Pence.
