The minister of police affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, has commended the UK government for the support and collaboration extended to Nigeria.

Mr Gaidam made this commendation on Wednesday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery.

The minister mentioned that the British government has consistently provided support to Nigeria in the areas of security, good governance, and economic cooperation.

He said the UK had consistently been a champion of democracy, human rights and respect for the rule of law.

According to him, the commitment of the UK government to these principles serves as an inspiration to many nations around the world, including Nigeria.

“The relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom is deeply rooted in historical ties and shared values.

“Our nations have long been partners in progress, collaborating on various fronts to promote peace, security, and economic development.

“As we witness your esteemed presence, we are reminded of the significance of our bilateral relations and the opportunities that lie before us,” he said.

Mr Gaidam pledged the commitment of the federal government to ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria and its citizens.
He expressed that this visit demonstrates the importance of the two countries working together to combat transnational crimes, terrorism, and other security challenges.

“We recognise the expertise and experience of the United Kingdom in these fields and eagerly look forward to discussions that will further enhance our cooperation,” he added.

In his remarks, Mr Montgomery stated that the visit reflects the value the High Commission places on its relationship with the ministry and other law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.

He emphasised the need for both countries to share common knowledge and strengthen their relationship.

He also commended the Nigeria Police for their service delivery despite the challenging circumstances.

“It is a tough job and so we need to give people who are doing well that tribute.

“We are generally standing ready to work closely with the current administration,” he said.
