Uche Nnaji, minister of innovation, science and technology, on Wednesday, restated the federal government’s commitment to support local inventions, bolster ingenuity and drive socio-economic development.

The minister made the pledge when the Association of Nigerian Inventors, led by its national president, Lawrence Nzenagu, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

He said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu had provisions for the stimulation of indigenous inventions that would enhance the capacity of inventors to drive the economy.

According to him, the ministry remains resolute in its dedication to encouraging and supporting innovative and technological initiatives from indigenous inventors.

The minister said that the ministry’s resolve to promote innovative technologies encompassed fostering a friendly environment where local Inventions could be commercialised.

“The challenge of nation-building is a challenge for all. So, you should ensure that your inventions can contribute to the growth and development of the nation,’’ he said.

Mr Nnaji said the world acknowledged the pivotal role played by Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the development of nations.

He added that no meaningful development would be achieved by any nation without STI.

Earlier, Mr Nzenagu, who said the purpose of the visit was to seek support for the association’s inventions, lamented that the commercialisation of inventions was slow.

“The act of commercialisation of inventions and creative arts is weak and needs to be encouraged.

“I believe if the private sector and investors also come in to support the government in this area, it will be easy for us,” Mr Nzenagu said
