Mob attacks Lagos-based content creator over “terrorist” prank
Popular content creator, Oriyomi Olaniyi, popularly known as Omoga Entertainment, narrowly escaped death following a prank where he wielded an object like AK-47 and disguised as a terrorist to cause fear among some men in an area in Lagos State.
In a video circulating online, Mr Olaniyi was dressed in a jalamiya, wore a mask, and clutched the gun-like object tucked in a black pouch.
In the footage, he makes a phone call in unclear Hausa in front of a shop to freighten his targets.
His appearance immediately caused panic among people nearby, who, as seen in the video, confronted him and began beating him, assuming he was a terrorist. One of the enraged men took a bottle to attack him.
Despite shouting that it was only a prank, the attackers continued, with some voices in the background yelling “werey ni e” in Yoruba meaning “You are mad”
The video also shows bystanders eventually stepping in after realising the gun was fake and he’s content creator.
The crowd later scattered and he was seeing thanking people who interceded for him in Yoruba, saying “Ese gan, ema binu,” meaning, “Thank you very much, don’t be angry.”
The incident intensified online conversations about how dangerous an extreme prank can be in Nigeria, especially in a period of rising insecurity.
An X user, @productivityVA said, “Tension is already high, playing with people’s fear isn’t a prank, it’s reckless.”
@folushoposter said, “Na those guys I blame, make he come do that yeye prank for my area, white house for Agbado. 10 secs blood don dey everywhere.”
@Kamoflag said, “When I tell people Nigeria can never be better , this part of it . Some Nigerians are just so stupid that everything is cruise or joke . People are losing their lives . Yet, it’s a trend on TikTok or skit for some dumb Nigerians.”
In another video after the incident, the prankster noted that he wouldn’t try such a prank, advising fellow content creators to be wary of the kind of pranks they play on people during this period.
