Frank Lampard’s second coming as Chelsea’s manager continues to slip into nightmare after the Blues were on Wednesday night defeated 2-0 at home by Brentford as the football legend’s reign at Stamford Bridge remains winless after five matches.

They have now failed to win any of their last eight matches across all competitions with a woeful record of six defeats and two draws.

The ex-England international was appointed the club’s head coach until the end of the season following Graham Potter’s sack earlier in the month. But Lampard’s return has been one that the Chelsea legend would want to quickly forget after the Bees made his unwanted record for five defeats in five matches.

Despite having the upper hand in the early minutes of the match, Chelsea failed to through Brentford’s defence. It was Brentford who broke the unlikely deadlock in the 37th through an own goal by Cesar Azpilicueta when the Spaniard deflected Mathias Jørgensen’s header into his own net.

Then 10 minutes after the break, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, frozen out of the first team squad for most part of Potter’s reign as manager, almost grabbed an equaliser for the Blues but his header which caught David Raya off his goal line area slightly went over the crossbar.

Chelsea maintained the possession of the game in search of an equaliser but it was Brentford who scored the second goal of the match – Bryan Mbeumo carried the ball from halfway down and put on a one-man show to double the lead for the Bees in the 78th minute which subsequently sealed the win.

The Blues remain 11th on the Premier League table with 39 points from 32 matches and are only 10 points off the relegation zone while the win which was the first in their last seven league games lifted Brentford from 10th to ninth on the table.
