The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday said it has awarded the hosting right of the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League final match to Morocco.

The African football governing body also revealed that the match will be held on May 30.

A statement on CAF’s official website said it decided to award the hosting right to Morocco following the subsequent withdrawal of the Senegalese Football Federation’s bid.

“CAF received a bid from the Senegalese Football Federation and from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to host the final match of the CAF Champions League 2021/2022,” it stated. “The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently withdrew their bid. CAF is therefore pleased to award the hosting of the CAF Champions League 2021/2022 Final Match to Morocco.”

The previous CAF leadership had decided on July 17 in 2019 that winners of the CAF Champions League would be determined by a one-leg final match, instead of the usual two-legged home and away final.

There are, however, discussions within CAF to revert to the old two-legged home and away final to determine the CAF Champions League winners, rather than the one-leg final.
