Veteran actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has undergone a leg amputation, leaving his family in need of financial assistance to cope with the situation.

Mr Ibu’s family announced this in a statement shared on his Instagram page on Monday, stating that the comic actor underwent seven surgeries and had his leg amputated to keep him alive.

“As of 1:00 p.m., noon today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries, but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery, one of his legs had to be amputated,” the statement read.

The actor’s family said they must confront the harsh reality of his condition and appealed for additional financial assistance.

Nonetheless, the family, while appreciating the help received, disclosed that once the actor is in a stable condition, he plans to thank those who supported him.

“In due time, Daddy will personally acknowledge everyone who supported during this period,” the family said.

On October 18, the actor sought help to avoid amputation, saying, “I am still lying down in the hospital; the medical doctor of the hospital said the best solution if his idea didn’t work, the best idea is to cut off my leg. Just see me; if they cut off my leg, where will I go to? Where do I go from here?”

His family posted on his Instagram page on October 31 that he had gone through five successful surgeries and is still recovering in the intensive care unit (ICU).
