The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged the Federal University, Lafia to create jobs for its graduating students and others to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Musa Ibrahim, made the call while hosting the management of FULafia in Lafia.

According to him, “jobs should be created as you are graduating students; you should absorb some of them and other people in order to tackle the rate of unemployment in the country.

Mr Ibrahim, a member representing Doma South constituency, commended the university for ensuring a high academic standard.

The lawmaker assured the House of its commitment to give it maximum support to enable the institution to succeed and for the overall development of the state and country at large.

”I want to appreciate you for the visit and to assure you of the assembly’s support to enable the university to succeed. We are satisfied with the quality of education at the university. We are ready to support, partner with, and collaborate with the university for the overall development of the institution,” he said.

He also urges the university to convert the institution’s stream into a tourist attraction centre.

Earlier, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Partnerships, Prof. Samaila Usman, said the visit was to seek the support of the members and the House in particular for the overall development of the institution.

”We have raised some issues of concern for the university to grow. We have discussed issues that are developmental in nature.

The Deputy VC said the university was up and doing in ensuring the security of students and staff, as well as others. The university is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the security of the lives and property of students and staff of the institution,” he said.
