No fewer than 264 players from 27 States in Nigeria are to participate in the scrabble event at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba.

The festival witnessed record entries from states that registered in the last edition in Benin.

The four category event will throw up 48 medals for grabs when players will engage each other in the cross game.

The federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development had in 2019 upgraded scrabble to a medal winning sport ahead of the 2020 NSF in Benin.

Toke Aka, President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), who spoke with journalists on Friday in Asaba, described the increase in the entries as a positive development.

“At the last Sports Festival, we had 23 states in attendance but now we have 27 states.

“That’s a big lift; and we will continue to develop the sport till all the 36 states and Abuja make scrabble a must in all national competitions,” he said.

The scrabble categories are Masters, Intermediate, Opens and Female and would feature singles, doubles and team events.
